Professionals who work directly with people who have intellectual or developmental disabilities

Direct Support Professionals (DSP) and Behavioral Technicians (BT) assist with client advocacy for persons with intellectual and physical disabilities. They work with individuals with mental or developmental disabilities by creating behavior plans and teaching self-care skills. DSPs help individuals meet personal goals and overcome barriers to behavioral development. The main role of a DSP & BT is to assist children, young adults, adults, or seniors with intellectual and physical disabilities live a happy, healthy, and fulfilled life. You can often find them working in supported living arrangements or the homes of their clients.
